RE: Honda Finally did it

642lbs? Even wet thats alot of weight for a 420.. with a 3.5 gallon tank.
Why does honda still use those 24" tires with 11inch rims? they should just go with 25/x/12's all around IMO.
Why, the weight is right in there with the IRS Yamaha Grizzly 450 and the Suzuki King Quad 450.
But BOTH of the ATVs you mentioned are IRS.
The weight of the Big Bear 350 auto is more of a fair comparison.
Dry weight on the Big Bear 350 is: 536 lb

RE: Thinking of getting a 4x4

A lift (IMO) is nothing but a pain in the rear!! And (for the record)...I like to run BIG tires and go thru BIG mud.
BUT...unless you are spending LOTS of cash (thousands) on a custom lift from Catvos or Gorilla or something...I would avoid a lift kit. The small lifts (3" or less) will add a little ground clearance, but the extra stress on the axles and ball-joints, etc... is NOT worth it IMO.
With a custom lift (that includes axles, a-arms, etc..) addresses this stress issue with a lot of extra custom parts.
If you ask me...don't get a lift!!

RE: My New Toy (with pics)

My center console boat is a 21' Sea Swirl Striper. It's a great boat...but I wanted something sportier for cruising the local lake and hot-spots. The CC boat is nice...but was missing that "wow" factor.

My New Toy (with pics)

I did it...I shifted from center console fishing boats over to sport-class cruisers. Now it's not the biggest or newest boat on the water...that's for SURE, but I think I got a great deal. It runs like a top, and REALLY moves!! I feel like I'm learning how to captain a boat all over again it feels so different from my C/C boats I've owned the last few years. I still have my fishing boat...and I'm not sure I'll sell it. Might just keep both for that "best of both worlds" thing.
She's a 1989 Scarab Excel. Mercruiser 350 (mostly stock) with 320 hours on it total. Boat is originally from Arkansas and spent the last few years in Dallas...obviously freshwater ONLY!!
I was a proud new owner cruising in my local area this weekend. Can't wait to get her back out on the water. So happy I took a day off tomorrow just to get her back out in the water on Monday when the lake should be like GLASS (weather permitting).
Let me know what you think...
It is the original paint (1989) and interior and there aren't any major flaws. Sure it has the typical dings here and there (it is 20 years old), but still a very presentable boat. I hope I can enjoy her for years without major issues...but only time (and my maintenance) will tell.

RE: Who Makes the Best ATV and who makes the WORST

Harley did go with another company and they did make a quad, It was called canindale (sorry about the spelling), It sounded like it would rattle it self apart. They didn't sale many, and yes they where expensive.
Cannondale is a bicycle company primarily that (to my knowledge) has NOTHING to do with Harley Davidson. They did make ATVs for a few years, and from what I remember were pretty competitive. I'm not much of a sport ATV enthusiast though, but someone here can surely add more.

I'm sure it would be fun to play on for a little while. That's sort of why I keep a YZ 125 around...it's just too much fun.

RE: Whats better

major factor in my decision here would be this...
Are you racing at the track primarily, dunes riding/racing, or are you trail riding and want a fast "racing" ATV to do it with?
If you are trail riding...reverse is VERY important. Not to mention the convenience of EFI if you choose the Raptor 700 (not 660). I would never consider an ATV without reverse for trail riding. That's just a bad idea.
But if you ARE racing...reverse is basically worthless.

RE: New Dirtwheels article on the 700cc shootout..

I have a 07 Rincon great ATV if you just want to trail ride but if you want to play hared their are better ATVs
Agreed!
That's not to say Rincon riders can't play hard...they can and DO, but the success rate is usually lower compared to equally skilled riders on other big bore ATVs.

RE: Trying to decide between a few bikes?

That Renegade 800 is one BAD mo-fo!!! I love that thing and if I had the cash...I'd consider getting one. It looks like the best sport-4x4 on the market.
And as for the diff-lock vs. visco-lock debate. I've become a true believer that the Can-Am visco-lock does just as good (not better) as any diff-lock front end out there in the MUD. I can't testify to rocks or climbing...just in the mud!!

RE: Can Ams in the snow and mud

IMO - anyone that is "impressed" with the Mud Nats water race (aka: Mud Bog) has never actually seen a REAL mud bog!!!
You know...where there is a tractor on hand to pull you out when you don't make it, and the winner is who makes it the furthest...not who gets thru it the fastest. THAT (IMO) is a mud bog!!

RE: New Dirtwheels article on the 700cc shootout..

Are these the only 3 "700" cc ATV machines right now? I can't remember...did the H1 get bumped up to 700cc? I'm also trying to understand why only these 3 ATVs. I want to see a current shoot-out between these:
Grizz 700 (with EPS)
Kawi BF 750 (maybe the 650i also)
Rincon 680
King Quad 750
AC 700
AC H1
Can-Am 800 (expect this one would win every catagory)
Polaris 800
Wish we'd have a REAL comparison of ALL these ATVs at one time...and in every catagory. Seems this has never happened (all at once).

RE: Can Ams in the snow and mud

Mud Nationals is in NO way a good comparison for real world use.
1. These ATVs are HIGHLY modified.
2. The "mud pit" they race it is little more than deep dirty water.
3. I've seen countless Hondas make it thru the pit...so how hard could it be?
While I agree the Can-Am 800 (IMO) is one AWESOME machine...I wouldn't base my opinion on Mud Nats.

RE: Polygamy in Texas

Actually...the state acted prematurely in this case. While child abuse/molestation and pedophelia are VERY serious issues...the law enforcement officers (FBI, who-ever) should have INVESTIGATED at least a little before storming in and taking away these kids, breaking up families, etc...
Update on the story for everyone..."Sara" (the original complaintant) can not be found. They (LEOs) can not verify her story. The man she claimed "raped" her has not been in Texas (He's been in Utah I think) in over 10 years (verified)...so it is impossible he raped her at the TX compound.
Now all these families have been broken up, kids in CPS custody, etc... all over what has now turned out to be very likely untrue information.
HOW WOULD YOU like it (anyone) if some 15 yr old chick called the Police and claimed you raped her...and the LEOs stormed into YOUR house with automatic weapons, arrested you, and sent your kids to CPS. THEN found out it wasn't true and they should have looked into it before storming in with guns blazing?
